EMDR FOR OCD
EMDR is an alternative treatment to cognitive behavioral therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention therapy for OCD. Research suggests that the presentation of aggressive or sexual OCD can be, in itself, traumatizing for many clients. In addition to addressing the client's worst fears, EMDR also addresses the traumatizing aspects of the OCD presentation. In working with OCD, the clinician assists the client in reprocessing dysfunctional memory networks such as the first time the OCD interfered with daily living, past traumas that are associated with the OCD, and current situations that trigger OCD. New adaptive information is developed to assist the client in gaining insight into what contributes to the increase and/or decrease of OCD symptomatology.
